A Dhaka court on Thursday imposed foreign travel bans on Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman Golam Mohammad (GM) Quader and his wife Sharifa Quader over corruption allegations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge (Acting) Ibrahim Mia issued the ban in response to a plea filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in this regard, ACC Deputy Director Akhtarul Islam told reporters.
ACC is probing allegations that Quader and his wife amassed wealth from unknown sources of income through corruption and abuse of power. They allegedly possess properties in various parts of the country and abroad that were acquired through corruption and illegal means.
The couple could be attempting to flee the country and transfer their properties abroad. Therefore, a travel ban is essential to ensure a proper and thorough inquiry into the allegations, the ACC petition added.
