A student of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Monday filed a writ petition with the High Court (HC) to halt the university’s student union elections on Thursday.
Amartya Rai Jon claimed JU Election Commission unfairly rejected his bid to contest for the vice-president post in the central student union (JUCSU).
However, JUCSU regulations automatically reject his bid as he is an irregular student, being admitted almost 11 years ago under the 2017-18 session.
On Sunday, he served legal notices to JU vice-chancellor, registrar and chief election commissioner demanding assurance of his candidacy in the polls.
