T20 World Cup set to begin on 7 February

Liberty News Desk

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 is scheduled to take place from 7 February to 8 March, with India and Sri Lanka set to co-host the month-long tournament featuring 20 teams.

At least five venues across India and two in Sri Lanka have been selected to stage the matches. The final will be held either in Ahmedabad or Colombo. However, if Pakistan reaches the final, the match is expected to be played in Colombo due to ongoing political tensions between the neighboring nations.

The tournament will follow the same format as the 2024 edition in the West Indies and USA. The 20 teams will be divided into four groups, with the top two from each group advancing to the Super Eight round. From there, the semi-finalists and finalists will be determined.

India, who beat South Africa in last year’s final in Barbados, will enter the competition as defending champions.

So far, 15 teams have already secured their place in the main tournament, including India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, USA, West Indies, New Zealand, Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, Netherlands and Italy.

The remaining five spots will be decided through regional qualifying events, with two teams coming from the Africa qualifier and three from the Asia and East Asia-Pacific qualifier.
