Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said that working in Bangladesh under the current circumstances is extremely challenging.
“Working in Bangladesh is very difficult. Particularly in the situation the country is going through, for some groups it is very convenient to get things done, while for most others it is very difficult. This is the situation the country finds itself in now,” the CEC remarked.
He made the statement on Saturday while addressing the “Election Officers’ Conference 2025” organised by the Bangladesh Election Commission Officers’ Association at the Election Commission Secretariat auditorium in Agargaon, Dhaka.
The CEC acknowledged that the Election Commission has been facing numerous obstacles in carrying out its duties. “In preparing for the election and working on various demands, we are encountering both direct and indirect challenges. These are not visible from outside, but we have to manage them,” he explained.
Nasir Uddin said that Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has full confidence in the Election Commission. He also assured that no illegal instructions would be issued to field-level election officials. “We will not give any unlawful directions, nor will we instruct anyone to work in favor of a particular side,” he emphasised.
Referring to the upcoming national election, the CEC described the current state of the country as a “special situation,” urging officials to adapt accordingly. He added that the present commission is undertaking several historic initiatives aimed at laying a new foundation for the electoral system.
