BNP Joint Secretary Syed Emran Saleh Prince has strongly condemned the rape of a girl from the Garo community in Jugli Union of Haluaghat upazila, describing the incident as “shocking, disgraceful and heartbreaking.”

In a statement shared on Facebook on Wednesday, Prince expressed his outrage, saying that those responsible for the heinous crime are “worse than animals” and must face exemplary punishment.

He confirmed that he had already called on the local police administration to take swift action without any leniency.

According to him, one suspect has been arrested, while operations are underway to capture the prime accused.

Prince said he had spoken with the victim’s mother and family, offering words of consolation, though acknowledging that no comfort could heal the deep trauma.

He noted that the girl’s mother is a member of the BNP family and had participated in the party’s anniversary rally on 3 September alongside other Garo women under the banner of the Nationalist Small Ethnic Group Forum.

Calling for justice, Prince urged all concerned to remain calm and cooperate with the investigation.

“This horrific crime must be tried properly, and steps must be taken to ensure such incidents do not recur,” he said, adding that he would personally monitor developments and stand beside the victim and her family.
