Students from Dhaka College and Ideal College “verbally” agreed to a truce on Sunday noon, officially announcing an end to their frequent clashes over trivial matters in the capital’s New Market area.
New Market Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Mahfuzul Haque was the brains behind the breakthrough peace initiative. He, along with high officials and student representatives from both the colleges, was present during the peace announcement at a Dhaka College auditorium.
City College students, who also engage in unnecessary conflicts with students from the other two colleges, did not take part in the police-led peace effort, saying they have no disagreements with others.
They too would join a similar peace initiative in the future, hoped OC AKM Mahfuzul.
