BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is receiving medical treatment as required, her personal physician and party Standing Committee member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain said on Tuesday, urging the public not to pay attention to rumours regarding her health.
Speaking at a press briefing held in front of the main gate of Evercare Hospital in Bashundhara, Dhaka, he provided an update on the former prime minister’s current condition and ongoing treatment.
Khaleda Zia has been undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital since 23 November, where tests revealed an infection in her lungs. The BNP had earlier described her condition as critical. Since 27 November, she has been kept under close observation in the hospital’s Critical Care Unit (CCU).
Her treatment is being overseen by a medical board led by Evercare specialist Professor Shahabuddin Talukder, comprising both local and foreign physicians.
Meanwhile, security around Evercare Hospital has been strengthened since Monday night. Barricades have been placed on both sides of the hospital’s main entrance, and police personnel have been deployed to ensure security. Public gathering in the area is being restricted.
According to police officers on duty, barricades were set up around 2am to prevent unnecessary crowds near the hospital.
Hospital sources said the enhanced security measures aim to ensure smooth movement for patients and their families, reduce crowds near the facility, and maintain safety for Khaleda Zia.
