Education Adviser Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud has firmly stated that there is no scope for granting special privileges to Titumir College, while also addressing the issue of university status for colleges during a press briefing following an ECNEC meeting.

Titumir College will not be granted any special privileges, asserted Education Adviser Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud on Sunday. Speaking with reporters after an Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting at the Planning Commission, he clarified that the government will not establish additional universities based on demands.

In response to questions about university status for other institutions, Dr. Mahmud highlighted that Rajshahi College, being the oldest in Bangladesh, should be considered for university status in the future.

Regarding the ongoing student movement at Titumir College, he emphasized that many students wish to return to their classes and avoid public inconvenience, urging students to prioritize the reduction of public disruptions.

Dr. Mahmud also mentioned that the seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University are being considered for a separate university, with a committee working on the matter. However, he noted that setting a timeline for the implementation of the demand is not advisable at this stage.

Liberty News’ campus correspondet state that students of Titumir College, who had previously launched a movement for the establishment of a university, announced a suspension of their “Block to North City” program due to the upcoming World Ijtima. Ali Ahmed, a student leader from the 2018-19 session, made the announcement during a press conference at the college campus.
