India has strongly condemned the vandalism and arson at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s historic residence in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi 32. The condemnation came from Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a regular briefing on Thursday.

Jaiswal described the house as a symbol of Bangladesh’s heroic resistance against oppressive forces during the 1971 Liberation War. “This residence stands as a testament to the nation’s struggle for freedom. The attack on this historic site is deeply concerning,” he stated.

The violence erupted on Wednesday night following a speech by former Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, which was broadcast from Delhi on Facebook. The unrest extended beyond Dhaka, with attacks and vandalism reported at the homes and offices of Awami League leaders in different parts of the country.

Liberty News’ national affairs correspondent states that Jaiswal is calling for accountability, he stressed that those who cherish Bangladesh’s identity and the legacy of the Liberation War should unite in denouncing such destructive acts.
