Bangladesh has set a target to increase its exports to Mexico to $1 billion, according to Mushfiqur Fazal Ansarey, Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Mexico. He stated that in addition to expanding the export of ready-made garments and pharmaceuticals, special initiatives will be taken to promote leather goods, IT services, and agricultural products in the Mexican market.
On Sunday, Ambassador Mushfiqur Fazal Ansarey shared these plans during the “Meet the Ambassador” event organized by the Bangladesh Embassy in Mexico City. The event, moderated by the Head of Chancery, Abdullah Al Farhad, served as a platform for discussions between the newly appointed ambassador and the Bangladeshi expatriate community.
The ambassador emphasized the crucial role of remittances sent by Bangladeshi expatriates in strengthening the country’s economy. He also pledged to make the embassy more people-friendly and highlighted the importance of enhancing “people-to-people connections” between Bangladesh and Mexico. Furthermore, he urged Bangladeshi expatriates to abide by the local laws and adapt to Mexico’s socio-economic environment.
Ambassador Ansarey reiterated Bangladesh’s zero-tolerance policy toward human trafficking and stressed the importance of safe and legal migration. He assured that the Bangladesh Embassy would actively work to create job opportunities for skilled Bangladeshi professionals in sectors such as IT, agriculture, and engineering in Mexico’s labor market.
Paying tribute to those who sacrificed their lives during the July Uprising, he stated that their contribution will never be forgotten. He also reaffirmed his commitment to building a discrimination-free Bangladesh and called for unity among Bangladeshis.
Highlighting the importance of legal accountability, the ambassador criticized the past authoritarian regime for its human rights violations. “During the previous fascist government’s rule, Bangladesh became infamous for enforced disappearances and killings. However, it is now time to move forward and establish Bangladesh as a disciplined, civilized, and progressive nation on the global stage,” he said.
Ambassador Ansarey also expressed pride in Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus, who is leading the interim government, stating that he is committed to holding free and fair elections to restore people’s ownership of the country.
Liberty News’ international correspondent states that several members of the Bangladeshi community in Mexico spoke at the event, extending their heartfelt congratulations to the ambassador and pledging their support for his initiatives aimed at the welfare of expatriate Bangladeshis.
