The match lacked dominant play from either side, with both teams showing a rather lifeless performance. Yet, as the game progressed, Argentina grew more dangerous. Despite their efforts, the crucial goal remained elusive. With Brazil’s win over Paraguay, Argentina knew a loss would derail their title hopes, making this match a must-win for them.

In the end, that was not the case. In the 86th minute, Subiábre’s goal secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory for Argentina against Colombia. With this win, Argentina has now won three consecutive matches, collecting 9 points, and remains firmly in the title race, with Messi and Di Maria’s successors still in contention.

Brazil currently tops the table, holding 9 points, just like Argentina, but ahead on goal difference. Argentina, led by Echeverri and Subiábre, had won their previous match by a 1-goal margin as well, though they had scored 4 goals against Uruguay. However, against Colombia, Argentina struggled to find the back of the net and had to work hard for their 1-0 victory.

In the first half, the Argentine youth team managed only Claudio Echeverri’s free-kick on target, with no other shots hitting the mark. In the second half, Echeverri and Santiago Hidalgo missed easy chances that could have extended the lead. However, in the dying moments of the match, Subiábre scored a brilliant solo goal, bypassing two defenders to seal the victory.

In the CONMEBOL Under-20 Championship, there are no finals or semifinals. The team at the top of the league standings is crowned champion, making every match equally important. With three victories, Argentina remains firmly in the title race. Moreover, this win has also secured their spot in the Under-20 World Cup, just like Brazil.
