With the slogan “Jago Bahe – Teesta Bachao” (Awaken, Save Teesta). BNP and its allies have launched a two-day program under the banner of the Teesta River Protection Movement, demanding fair water distribution and implementation of river projects.
According to party sources, a continuous 48-hour sit-in program will be held along the riverbanks. The initiative aims to pressurize India to resolve the Teesta water-sharing agreement and other transboundary river water distribution issues, ensuring Bangladesh’s interests are upheld.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will inaugurate the program today (Monday) near the Teesta Rail Bridge in Lalmonirhat. On Tuesday, BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman will address the concluding event.
Additionally, senior BNP leaders will hold rallies at 11 locations across five northern districts—Lalmonirhat, Rangpur, Kurigram, Gaibandha, and Nilphamari. Leaders from allied political parties will also participate.
The organizers stated that the Teesta River Protection Movement committee will lead a march towards Teesta, conduct a sit-in program along 230 kilometers of both banks of the river, demanding Bangladesh’s fair share of Teesta water and the implementation of a comprehensive river development plan.
Liberty News’ political correspondent reports that, several senior leaders will be present as guests at various points of the march. These include BNP Standing Committee members Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, along with BNP Vice Chairmen Barkatullah Bulu and Shamsuzzaman Dudu.
