BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has asserted that his party will never condone injustice and will always hold its members accountable for any wrongdoings. He emphasized that the key difference between BNP and other political parties is their commitment to upholding justice.
On Saturday, Tarique Rahman joined virtually at the district BNP’s biannual conference in Jessore, held at the Eidgah field. Speaking on the occasion, he reiterated that should BNP be given the opportunity to govern, the first priority would be national reconstruction. He emphasized the importance of transparent elections and expressed hope that an interim government would deliver a fair election as soon as possible.
Tarique also noted that the party is focused on restructuring and strengthening itself, with the key task of reaching out to villages to disseminate their 31-point reform proposal. He sharply criticized the authoritarian government for destroying the country’s institutions, mentioning that while people have called for a shift in power balance and qualitative political change, BNP’s 31-point proposal remains a concrete plan against autocracy.
Tarique highlighted that numerous false cases were filed against over 60 lakh BNP supporters, and despite the adversities, BNP and other democratic forces continued their struggle on the streets, many even sacrificing their lives in the process. He emphasized that BNP has always put the country and its people as the top priority when in power, seeking solutions to people’s problems despite limitations.
Reflecting on recent criticisms from various quarters, Tarique reaffirmed that BNP adheres strictly to its policy of not supporting any actions that are not backed by public support. He stressed that BNP is the only party that takes action against corrupt or morally wrong leaders and will continue to do so in the future.
Earlier in the morning, the conference was inaugurated with the hoisting of flags and the release of balloons and doves. Amanullah Aman, BNP’s advisory member, expressed optimism for early national elections, underlining that under the leadership of Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman, BNP will form the next government.
Liberty News’ political correspondent states that at the second session held at the Jessore Institute, elections were held for the positions of president and organizational secretary. The results were expected to be announced later that evening.
