A Jubo League leader hacked to death in public in South Khankhan

A Jubo League leader was brutally hacked to death in public in the South Khankhan area of the capital on Monday night (December 15). The incident occurred around 8:30 pm at Taltola intersection in the Naddapara area of South Khankhan.

The victim was identified as Shahjahan Sheikh (45), son of Hakim Uddin of Ashkona Dealer Bari. According to local sources, Shahjahan Sheikh was a prospective president of the Airport Thana unit of Jubo League. He also served as the president of the Ashkona Community Police and was involved in the dish connection business.

Local businessman Mahfuzur Rahman Miah said that Shahjahan Sheikh was running through an alley toward Taltola intersection when several assailants chased him from behind. The attackers then publicly hacked him indiscriminately with sharp weapons, killing him on the spot. He died instantly due to severe injuries.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers fled the scene immediately after the incident, leaving behind a machete and a cap used during the attack.

Upon receiving information, members of South Khankhan Police Station, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Detective Branch (DB), and other intelligence agencies rushed to the scene and collected evidence.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of South Khankhan Police Station, Shariful Islam, said that unidentified assailants inflicted multiple blows to Shahjahan Sheikh’s head and various parts of his body with sharp weapons, ensuring his death before fleeing. Legal procedures, including the inquest of the body, are currently underway. Efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest those involved in the killing.
