A post declaring Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the proclaimer of Bangladesh’s independence has led to the withdrawal of Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sirajum Munira Kayeshan in Brahmanbaria’s Sarail Upazila.
An Assistant Commissioner (Land) in Brahmanbaria, Sirajum Munira Kayeshan, has been recalled after a controversial social media post identifying Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the proclaimer of independence. The post, published on Wednesday morning, stirred up a major controversy in Sarail, leading to widespread unrest. The post referred to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as ‘Bangabandhu’ and claimed him as the proclaimer of the nation’s independence, a statement that triggered a backlash.
According to Sarail Upazila’s Executive Officer (UNO), Mohammad Mosharaf Hossain, the Assistant Commissioner has denied writing the post, claiming her account was hacked. She also stated that the password for the account was accessible to several individuals, which might have led to the post.
After the incident, the Assistant Commissioner was immediately withdrawn from her duties in Sarail and sent to the office of the Chattogram Division Commissioner for further investigation. The district administration has begun a probe into the matter.
Following the publication of the post, the Assistant Commissioner attended the Independence Day parade at Annada High School ground, where she was confronted by BNP activists who criticized her actions. The situation escalated, prompting her to leave the venue shortly after. About 45 minutes later, the controversial post was deleted, and a follow-up post was made claiming the original post was the result of a hacked account.
Liberty News local correspondent states that the local administration has stated that further legal steps will be taken once the investigation concludes.
