The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched simultaneous operations at eight major railway stations across Bangladesh to combat black market ticket sales, financial irregularities, and passenger harassment.
The crackdown began at 11:30 AM on May 28, with ACC special teams deployed to Kamalapur (Dhaka), Chattogram, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sylhet, and Dinajpur stations.
Md Akhtarul Islam, Deputy Director of Public Relations at the ACC, confirmed the move, saying, “Our operation aims to dismantle the illicit network behind ticket sales and ensure a smooth, corruption-free experience for passengers.”
The move comes amid a massive online rush for train tickets ahead of Eid. On May 26 alone, the Bangladesh Railway ticketing website recorded a staggering 29.7 million hits in 30 minutes for June 5 departures on western-bound trains. A day earlier, the site logged 19.4 million hits for eastern-bound routes.
According to railway data, a total of 33,924 tickets were issued for June 5 travel—16,576 for eastern-bound and 17,348 for western-bound trains. By 8:30 AM, nearly 14,581 tickets had already been sold, indicating the intensity of demand and urgency behind the ACC’s intervention.
The ACC’s sweeping crackdown signals a tough stance against ticket hoarding and corruption in one of the country’s most crucial transport sectors.
