The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) could not locate Saima Wazed’s Shuchana Foundation after conducting a raid at its supposed address in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi, leaving them astonished.

On January 29, the ACC had planned to raid the address of Shuchana Foundation, a non-governmental organization established by Saima Wazed, daughter of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. However, after the operation, ACC Deputy Director Akhtarul Islam revealed that no trace of the foundation could be found at the given location.

Earlier, the ACC had raised concerns over Saima Wazed’s position as the Regional Director for Southeast Asia at the World Health Organization (WHO), alleging discrepancies in the information she provided regarding her nationality and qualifications. Furthermore, they have accused her of misappropriating funds by setting up Shuchana Foundation and collecting donations from various social and business organizations.

Liberty News’ national affairs correspondent reports Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) had earlier frozen the bank accounts of Shuchana Foundation on November 24, and the ACC has claimed that Saima unlawfully influenced the National Board of Revenue to exempt the foundation’s funds from taxes.
