Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul has announced that the charge sheet in the high-profile Achiya murder case has been prepared, and the trial will conclude within 90 days.
Speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat on Sunday, Dr. Nazrul emphasized the government’s commitment to fast-tracking the trial, stating that the case is being monitored from the highest levels of authority. “Doctors did their utmost, and the government has amended laws to ensure swift justice in rape cases,” he added.
Regarding the case involving model Meghna, Dr. Nazrul admitted there are clear allegations against her but noted that the arrest procedure was flawed. The Home Ministry is currently investigating the matter.
Dr. Nazrul also revealed that under the previous administration, recommendations were made to withdraw 7,184 politically motivated cases. “Our officers are sincerely evaluating each case to determine whether they fall under political harassment,” he said.
Liberty News’ court correspondent states that, addressing the Bangladesh Bank cyber heist, Dr. Nazrul, who heads the review committee on the matter, stated that the hackers had planned to steal $2 billion. “Had the plan succeeded, it could have pushed the country toward famine,” he warned. He criticized the ruling Awami League government for delaying the investigation and noted that the CID was instructed to omit the names of involved officials from the report. The law adviser has requested updates on the actions taken against those initially named in the CID findings.
