A training fighter jet of the Bangladesh Air Force crashed into a residential area in Diabari, Uttara, at approximately 1:18 PM on Monday, 21 July, resulting in one of the deadliest peacetime aviation tragedies in the country. As of Tuesday, the death toll has risen to 31, including several children, while 165 others have been reported injured.

Following the crash, personnel from a nearby Bangladesh Army camp immediately rushed to the scene and began rescue operations in coordination with the Fire Service and other emergency agencies. Emergency medical teams worked around the clock to assist victims and transport the injured to hospitals.

However, rescue efforts were significantly hampered by the presence of a large crowd of onlookers who refused to clear the area, despite repeated pleas from army personnel and volunteers from Milestone School. The obstruction delayed the transportation of injured individuals, potentially contributing to the rising number of casualties.

On Tuesday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a statement condemning the interference and confirmed that administrative action would be taken against any individuals found responsible during the ongoing investigation.

The ISPR also revealed that during the afternoon rescue efforts, a misunderstanding and altercation broke out between several onlookers and rescue workers. The situation escalated into a confrontation that left 14 army personnel ill. All 14 are currently receiving treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

The Bangladesh Army emphasized in its statement that it has always operated with professionalism and dedication in service to the people and will continue to uphold these principles.

Given the magnitude of the tragedy, the Bangladesh Army has launched a formal investigation into the incident and its aftermath.
