Popular actor Siddiqur Rahman Siddiq was assaulted in broad daylight by a group of men in Dhaka’s Kakrail area before being handed over to police, in an incident that has sparked outrage on social media.

On Tuesday afternoon around 4:00 PM, actor Siddiqur Rahman, widely known as Siddiq, was publicly assaulted by several youths near Kakrail in the capital. Viral videos circulating on social media show him being dragged and beaten as his attackers chanted political slogans, accusing him of being an “ally of the Awami League.”

The assailants reportedly tore his clothes before forcefully escorting him to the Ramna police station. One video captured a voice declaring, “We are handing over Siddiq, a collaborator of Awami League, to the police.”

While some online posts claim that members of the BNP-affiliated student wing, Chhatra Dal, were involved in the incident, no official statement has been released by the organization’s verified platforms.

Ramna Police Station’s duty officer, Sub-Inspector Jalal Uddin, confirmed Siddiq’s custody and said, “He was brought to the station about an hour ago by a group labeling him a fascist. We are currently verifying whether there are any cases filed against him.”

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but the violent nature of the incident has drawn sharp criticism from various quarters, with calls for a thorough investigation.
