Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Wednesday clarified that LGRD Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan obtained his firearms licence through proper legal procedures.
Speaking at a project evaluation meeting organised by the Ministry of Agriculture at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) auditorium in Dhaka, he said, “Asif Mahmud mistakenly carried a magazine of the licensed firearm to the Dhaka airport, and it was completely unintentional.” He also mentioned that he had clarified the issue on Tuesday as well.
The meeting was presided over by Agriculture Secretary Dr Mohammad Emdad Ullah.
When asked about the Muradnagar rape case, the adviser said that those involved in the incident have already been brought under the law.
Reiterating the government’s strong stance on corruption, he stated that while corruption has not been completely eradicated, no individual involved will be spared.
