BNP leader Ishraque Hossain’s recent activities surrounding the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayoral position have been described as “criminal offences” and “politically motivated” by LGRD Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain.

The interim government adviser alleged that Ishraque violated legal procedures in his attempts to assert mayoral authority. “His acts are blatant criminal offences and gross violations of the law,” Asif said, suggesting the BNP figure is being misguided for short-term political gain.

Asif, a former student leader of the Students Against Discrimination movement, warned Ishraque against actions that could damage relations between the government and the BNP. He clarified that although the LGRD Ministry had completed the required documentation for Ishraque’s swearing-in, the process was halted based on directions from the Ministry of Law Affairs.

Earlier in the day, Ishraque, while addressing city residents at Nagar Bhaban, accused the government of obstructing essential services and alleged that the LGRD adviser had instructed DSCC officials to neglect their responsibilities. In response, Asif urged Ishraque to act responsibly for the public good.
