Following the phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump, there is growing unease and frustration in Europe. The conversation between the two leaders has highlighted Europe’s diminishing global influence, according to Dmitry Medvedev, Russia’s former president and current deputy chairman of the country’s Security Council.
On Wednesday, Putin and Trump held a phone call, which has sparked concerns among European Union (EU) politicians. Some fear that, despite Ukraine’s interests, the two leaders might reach an agreement on the war in Ukraine that is unfavorable for Kyiv.
Germany’s defense minister expressed disappointment, stating that the U.S. administration had already offered concessions to Russia before any talks had even begun.
Medvedev, in a Telegram post, noted that Europe has become “crazy with rage and anger.” He pointed out that the details of the Putin-Trump phone call were not shared with Europe, leaving them frustrated. He further stated that the phone call demonstrated the true roles of Russia and the U.S. on the world stage, declaring that “Europe’s time is over.”
Liberty News’ international correspondent states that according to a report by The Wall Street Journal, China has proposed organizing a summit between Russian President Putin and U.S. President Trump to help resolve the Ukraine war. Officials in Beijing have reportedly been in contact with Trump’s team through intermediaries to arrange a summit and work on peacekeeping efforts after the war’s conclusion.
