Syria’s de facto leader Ahmed Al-Shara has been declared the interim president of the country. At the same time, the nation’s constitution has also been suspended. This information was reported by Syria’s state news agency SANA yesterday.

Al-Shara has also been granted the power to form a temporary legislative council for the interim period. This council will carry out its duties until a new constitution is adopted. The appointment of Al-Shara as president was announced by Hassan Abdel Ghani, the spokesperson for the military operations department of Syria’s new de facto government.

Liberty News international correspondent reports that Abdel Ghani stated all military factions have been dissolved and incorporated into state institutions. He also announced the dissolution of the former regime’s army, security agencies, and the Baath Party, which had ruled Syria for decades.
