Former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra has made a strong statement about Bangladesh’s cricket future, saying that without Shakib Al Hasan, the team will hardly be recognizable in global cricket.

Shakib Al Hasan has ruled the cricketing world for over a decade, establishing himself as one of the best all-rounders in the sport’s history. However, recent challenges, including a bowling ban and his exclusion from the upcoming Champions Trophy squad, have left the legendary cricketer facing tough times.

In light of these developments and the recent omission of any Bangladesh player from the ICC’s best XI of the year, Akash Chopra expressed his concerns regarding the future of Bangladesh cricket. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra remarked, “Without Shakib, I don’t think we will see any Bangladeshi player in the ICC’s best XI in the near or distant future.”

He further elaborated, “There’s no one in the lineup now. I’m wondering what’s happening with Bangladesh cricket. Without him, the team’s name will be hard to find anywhere. It’s the end. In all formats—ODIs, T20s, Tests—there’s no Bangladesh representation. On and off the field, they’re just facing setbacks. It’s really unfortunate.”

Liberty News’ sports correspondent states Akash Chopra, who has always admired Shakib’s cricketing prowess, even previously referred to him as “the daddy of all-rounders,” further emphasizing the importance of the star cricketer to Bangladesh’s cricketing identity.
