A violent clash broke out between two factions of the Awami League in Shariatpur’s Zajira, centered around a power struggle, with over 100 hand grenades being detonated. The incident occurred in the Durbadanga area of Bilaspur Union on Saturday morning.
On Saturday morning, tension escalated into violence between supporters of Awami League-backed Bilaspur Union Chairman Kuddus Bepari and the defeated chairman, Volunteer League leader Jalil Madbor, over a long-standing rivalry for control. Despite previous clashes, the dispute flared up again over a trivial incident, leading to a violent exchange in Durbadanga. During the conflict, over 100 hand grenades were detonated, creating a chaotic and dangerous situation.
Local sources and the police confirmed the incident, though, as of now, no casualties have been reported. The police responded promptly, bringing the situation under control.
A 15-second video of the explosion surfaced on social media, showing a large open field where the rival factions confronted each other. Many individuals were seen wearing helmets and holding buckets, from which hand grenades were thrown, causing loud explosions followed by clouds of smoke.
Efforts to contact both Kuddus Bepari and Jalil Madbor for comments were unsuccessful, as their phone numbers were unreachable.
Liberty News’ local correspondent states that Zajira Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Dulal Akhond confirmed the clash, stating that the police arrived at the scene and successfully restored order. He added that legal action would be taken as per the situation.
