In a surprising move, Siddiqur Rahman, the Religious Affairs Secretary of the Kachhalia Upazila Awami League, has resigned from his party position. He made the announcement in a press conference on March 19, 2025, citing personal beliefs and instructions from his religious leader as the reason for his decision.

Siddiqur Rahman, who had been serving as the Religious Affairs Secretary of the Awami League’s Kachhalia Upazila chapter, held a press conference at the Kachhalia Press Club on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, where he officially tendered his resignation.

In his written resignation letter, Rahman explained that he joined the North Talgochia Nesaria Fazil Madrasa in 2017 as the Principal and worked towards its development. In 2019, he was included in the Kachhalia Upazila Awami League committee as the Religious Affairs Secretary. However, he stated that his recent alignment with the ideals of the “Charchina” school of thought, which encourages a non-political stance, led him to take the decision.

“I am now a follower of the ‘Charchina’ ideology, and our current religious leader has instructed his followers to remain unaffiliated with any political party. Therefore, I voluntarily resign from my position in the Awami League and will not be involved with any political party in the future,” Rahman said in his resignation statement.

Liberty News’ local correspondent states that this resignation marks a significant development in the local political landscape, raising questions about the influence of religious leaders on political affiliations.
