A man identified as Salauddin Sumon, son of a local Awami League leader, has been arrested with illegal weapons, including an unlicensed airgun, during a joint forces operation in Lalmai upazila of Comilla.
The arrest was confirmed by Abdullah Al Faruq, Second Officer of Lalmai Police Station, on Sunday morning.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team conducted a late-night raid on Saturday in the Jalgao village of Belgor South Union. Sumon, 45, was arrested from his home. Authorities recovered an unlicensed airgun, 27 airgun bullets, five locally made weapons, and a 220cc Pulsar motorcycle lacking valid documents.
Sumon is the son of Shamsul Haque Chairman, an advisor to the Lalmai Upazila Awami League.
Liberty News’ local correspondent states that Lalmai Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Shah Alam, confirmed that legal proceedings are underway regarding the seized weapons and vehicle.
