Socio-political figures are at the center of a storm after journalist Elias Hossain accused student adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan of being involved in a lucrative corruption scheme tied to the appointment of local administrators in Dhaka.
In a Facebook post late Wednesday night, journalist Elias Hossain made explosive allegations against Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, the student adviser, claiming that he is part of an illicit network running a multimillion-dollar business involving the appointment of local administrators across Dhaka. The post, titled “A Project Worth Hundreds of Crores Quietly Underway,” highlighted the role of Alaudddin Mohammad, the joint general secretary of the National Citizens Party, who is said to be operating the scheme from a third-floor office at 469, Road 31, Mohakhali, Dhaka.
Hossain alleged that daily interviews are being conducted to appoint administrators in the 129 wards of the Dhaka North City Corporation, with Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan’s unannounced cashier, Abu Saeed Leon, and other student leaders including Lutfor are actively involved in the process.
Describing the dynamics of the interview sessions, Hossain shared details of a meeting during which Alaudddin was seated in the middle, with Lutfor beside him and Leon near the door at around 2 PM. According to the allegations, each ward councilor is required to pay a bribe of 50 lakh taka to secure the appointment of local administrators.
Liberty News’ crime correspondent states that these accusations have raised significant concerns about corruption and influence peddling in local government appointments.
