A court in Dhaka has cleared five individuals, including BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, in a case filed under the Special Powers Act concerning the leak of a viral audio clip on social media during the 2018 student movement for safe roads.
The other four exempted are Barrister Minhanur Rahman Naomi, Rafikul Islam Nayan, Habibur Rahman Habib, and Robiul Islam Robi.
Judge Md Jannatul Ferdous Ibn Haque issued the order on Sunday, dropping the charges against them.
The case stemmed from a phone conversation on August 3, 2018, between Amir Khasru and Barrister Naomi, where the BNP leader was heard instructing to mobilise BNP supporters in Dhaka. The conversation was reported the following day.
Police filed the case on August 5, 2018, with Shahbagh Police Station, submitted a charge sheet on January 25, 2020, and the court framed charges against the accused on January 19, 2022.
