BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury emphasized that reforms in the country can only be implemented with broad consensus. He also stated that any legislation without consensus would be passed by a parliament formed through elections with a people’s mandate.

Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, a senior member of the BNP Standing Committee, highlighted the importance of achieving consensus before implementing reforms. He stressed that any reform effort should be implemented only after an agreement is reached. If no consensus is reached, the parliament formed through elections would be responsible for implementing the decisions, with a mandate from the people.

He made these remarks during a briefing after a meeting with the European Union Ambassador at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan on Thursday afternoon. The meeting focused on political and economic discussions, including the matter of reform commissions.

Khasru also mentioned that discussions had been held about how the European Union and Bangladesh can further collaborate, particularly regarding export opportunities, as the EU is one of Bangladesh’s largest trading partners.

Furthermore, Khasru underlined the importance of restoring democratic order, stating that no institution, either domestically or internationally, would provide support without it. He emphasized that the return of democratic governance is crucial for the country’s future.

Liberty News’ political correspondent states that the meeting, which began at 11 AM, lasted for an hour and was attended by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee members, and other senior BNP leaders, alongside the European Union Ambassador, Michael Miller, and Political Secretary, Sebastian Rieger Brown.
