BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has accused certain groups of attempting to undermine the electoral system under the guise of reform. He asserted that BNP, once in power through public mandate, will implement necessary reforms and fulfill its 31-point agenda for national development.
“Do not try to derail the election in the name of reform. We are committed to the people, and we will carry out reforms through democratic means,” Amir Khosru stated while addressing a BNP rally at Laxmipur Outer Stadium on Thursday evening. The rally, organized by the Laxmipur district BNP, was part of the party’s ongoing nationwide movement demanding fair elections, controlled commodity prices, and improved law and order.
Calling for an immediate election, Amir Khosru said, “The sole responsibility of an interim government is to peacefully transfer power to an elected government and restore democracy in Bangladesh. The people’s constitutional and democratic rights must be reinstated, and all reforms should take place in the national parliament.”
He further emphasized that power ultimately belongs to the people, adding, “No interim government has the authority to assume the role of an elected one. Any such attempt would be a grave mistake.”
Referring to BNP’s long struggle for democracy, Amir Khosru remarked, “For 16 years, we have fought to return ownership of the country to its people. But today, certain forces refuse to accept this principle. Their goal is to seize power through conspiracy, hold onto it, and abuse it. They are now advocating for proportional representation in elections, but that decision rests solely with the people.”
The rally was presided over by district BNP Convener Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, with Central Jubo Dal President Abdul Monayem as the chief speaker. Other notable speakers included BNP Chattogram Divisional Organizing Secretary Mahbubur Rahman, Chairperson’s Advisor Abul Khair Bhuiyan, Chattogram Divisional Assistant Organizing Secretary Harunur Rashid, and former lawmaker of Lakshmipur-4 (Ramgati-Kamalnagar) ABM Ashraf Uddin.
Liberty News’ political correspondent states that the BNP has been actively mobilizing nationwide protests and rallies, demanding a fair electoral framework and the restoration of democratic rights in Bangladesh.
