Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman Andalib Rahman Partha has expressed concerns over the potential for violent clashes in local elections, warning that holding such elections before the national polls could lead to chaos and bloodshed.

Andalib Rahman Partha, Chairman of the Jatiya Party, has voiced strong opposition to holding local elections before the national election. Speaking at a political dialogue with the National Consensus Commission at the Foreign Service Academy on Saturday, he stated that conducting local elections could trigger violence, particularly in the 4,500 union councils, which he said have seen intense and bloody clashes in the past. “There is a risk of violent conflicts in union council elections, with a higher likelihood of bloodshed,” he warned.

He further criticized the Awami League, stating that the party would not accept the ground reality and would not be able to manage the situation. He urged that any election should ensure stability and avoid any form of terrorism or chaos. “We must maintain a stable environment, and no reform should delay the national elections,” he said.

Partha also emphasized the importance of preserving the sacrifices made by political activists and students, urging that these should not be wasted. “We have all stood together, and we must protect the hard-won achievements of our people,” he added.

Liberty News’ political correspondent states that regarding the current government’s actions over the past six months, Partha expressed satisfaction with its efforts but acknowledged the need for ongoing dialogue. “We are satisfied and stand by the government. We are formally in discussions about what is working and what needs improvement,” he concluded.
