BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anny said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s trial must be visible before the upcoming national election, accusing her of ordering fire on unarmed students and civilians.
Speaking at a BNP-organized political workshop held Tuesday morning at Lalmonirhat Zila Parishad Auditorium, Anny made sharp allegations against the current government, claiming it had failed to uphold justice, democracy, and national interests over the past 15 years.
“Hasina gave orders from a helicopter to shoot unarmed students and citizens—this crime must face justice visibly before any future election,” said Anny. He added that the Awami League’s submissive foreign policy has left Bangladesh without its fair share of Teesta River water, and only Tarique Rahman has the capability to implement the long-pending Teesta Master Plan.
He described BNP’s 31-point reform plan as a people-centric initiative formed through dialogue with representatives of all social classes. “Our goal is to connect the general public with this reform agenda and rebuild a collapsed state system under fascist rule,” he said.
Anny recalled the party’s legacy of leading democratic movements and praised late President Ziaur Rahman for shaping a self-reliant Bangladesh. “Though his leadership was brief, his vision was clear. We’ve fought, suffered, and lost many comrades in our battle for democracy,” he added.
He also accused the ruling party of trying to eliminate BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia by denying her proper medical treatment while she was in prison. “They grabbed power through rigged elections, held at night, and were aided by corrupt officials tempted by black money,” Anny alleged.
The workshop, chaired by BNP Organizing Secretary Asadul Habib Dulu, also featured speeches by Training Secretary Rasheda Begum Hira and central leaders Nowaz Halima Arly and Iqbal Hossain Shyamal. Over 200 BNP activists from five upazilas of Lalmonirhat participated in the event. BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman is scheduled to address the participants virtually at 4 PM.
