England fast bowler Jofra Archer made a sensational comeback to Test cricket after more than four years, claiming a wicket in just his third delivery during the third Test against India at Lord’s on Friday. The speedster removed in-form opener Yashasvi Jaiswal with a fiery 90 mph ball, sending a clear message that he’s back in rhythm.

Meanwhile, India’s captain Shubman Gill, who had scored 585 runs in four innings in the series including three centuries, was dismissed for just 16. At stumps on Day 2, India were 145-3, trailing by 242 runs in response to England’s first-innings total of 387. KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 53, with Rishabh Pant on 19.

Earlier in the day, Jasprit Bumrah continued his dominance with the ball, earning his name on the prestigious Lord’s honours board with figures of 5-74. His devastating spell included three wickets for just one run in seven balls, dismissing key batters like Ben Stokes, Joe Root, and Chris Woakes.

England’s Brydon Carse, however, frustrated the visitors with his maiden Test fifty (56), sharing a valuable 84-run stand with Jamie Smith, who also contributed 51. Their partnership helped England recover from 271-7 and post a respectable 387.

Notably, Root reached his 37th Test century early on Day 2, moving up to fifth on the all-time list led by Sachin Tendulkar (51 centuries). Stokes added just five runs to his overnight 39 before being bowled by Bumrah, while Woakes fell the very next ball.

India’s pace attack, led by Bumrah and supported by Mohammed Siraj, eventually wrapped up the England innings. Archer’s impressive 1-22 in 10 overs and Root’s record 211th catch as an outfielder also highlighted England’s fightback on a lively second day at Lord’s.

With the five-match series tied 1-1, the Lord’s Test is shaping up to be a crucial contest between two cricketing giants.
