In a stunning performance, Argentina dominated Brazil 4-1 in the World Cup qualifiers, even without star player Lionel Messi, securing a resounding victory at home.

Argentina, fresh off their qualification for the 2026 World Cup, produced a dominant display against their long-time rivals Brazil at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires. Despite missing key players like Lionel Messi, Lautaro Martínez, and Paulo Dybala, Argentina showed no signs of slowing down, dispatching the five-time world champions in style.

From the first whistle, Argentina controlled the game. Julián Álvarez put them ahead in the 4th minute, and just eight minutes later, Enzo Fernández doubled their lead. In the 37th minute, Alexis Mac Allister added a third, leaving Brazil with little hope. Though Brazil’s Matheus Cunha pulled one back in the 26th minute, it was only a consolation goal as the match slipped away from them.

The Argentine dominance continued in the second half, with an impressive strike by Giuliano Simeone in the 72nd minute, making it 4-1. Brazil’s players, including Raphinha, Vinícius Júnior, and Rodrygo, failed to make an impact, leaving their side thoroughly outclassed.

This victory means Brazil has now gone five consecutive matches without a win against Argentina, having lost four of those. Brazil’s last win over Argentina came in the 2019 Copa América.

Liberty News’ sports correspondent states that with this triumph, Argentina, who have now played 14 matches in the World Cup qualifiers, secured 31 points with 10 wins and 1 draw. Ecuador follows in second place with 23 points after a goalless draw against Chile, while Uruguay, Brazil, and Paraguay are all tied with 21 points.
