Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman has instructed military personnel to carry out their duties with patience in maintaining peace and order until an elected government assumes office.
He made this statement on Monday (February 24) while attending a prize distribution ceremony for the winners of a firing competition at the Savar Cantonment.
The Army Chief said, “We had planned to finish our work quickly and return to the cantonment, but the task has been ongoing for an extended period. Since the work is continuing for so long, we must remain patient and carry out our duties with professionalism for the country & nation.”
He further added, “Until we have an elected government in place, we must continue our work to maintain peace and order in the country. During this period, we cannot engage in any unprofessional behavior, we must ensure discipline.”
Emphasizing that the use of force should not be employed while carrying out duties, General Waker-uz-Zaman stated that force should only be used when absolutely necessary to complete the task.
The Army Chief further remarked, “For a soldier, achieving professional excellence in firing skills is crucial. It is an integral part of basic training. This competition plays a significant role in enhancing the desired standards of our soldiers every year.”
Earlier, the Army Chief awarded the best three shooters in the firing competition with the Army’s Best Firing Awards. The 33rd Infantry Division emerged as the champion, while the 7th Infantry Division secured the runners-up position.
The event was attended by senior military officials, including Major General Moin Khan, GOC of the 9th Infantry Division. After the award distribution, the Army Chief himself participated in the firing to motivate the soldiers. During this, he fired several rounds at a specific target.
