Bangladesh Army will not compromise on national security and sovereignty, especially regarding the sensitive corridor issue with Myanmar, said Colonel Md. Shafiqul Islam during a press briefing on Monday.
Speaking at the Army Headquarters in response to media queries, Colonel Shafiqul Islam stated that the army remains unwavering in its commitment to border security. “There will be no concessions at the borders. The army is determined to ensure complete security,” he said.
Referring to the Bangladesh–Myanmar corridor, he described it as “highly sensitive” and confirmed that the army operates strictly under government directives, maintaining full alignment with national policy. “There is no difference of opinion with the government, and the army will never be involved in any activity that threatens national security,” he added.
Addressing potential unrest, the colonel warned against the formation of mobs intending to create chaos, asserting that the army would take strong action if necessary.
On the discovery of KNF-branded clothing at a factory in Chattogram, Colonel Shafiqul Islam called the matter “alarming” and said the army is monitoring the situation closely.
Regarding recent push-in incidents along the border, he reiterated that such actions are unacceptable. “There’s no question of remaining idle. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is handling the situation. If needed, the army will intervene on government orders,” he concluded.
