A Dhaka court on Thursday indicted former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul, and several others in three corruption cases over alleged irregularities in the allocation of government plots under the Purbachal New Town Project.

Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-5 framed the charges and issued arrest warrants, as the accused were absent during the proceedings.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam said that the court has fixed 11 August for the beginning of witness testimony.

According to Salam, Hasina is among 12 accused in one case, she and her son Joy are among 17 accused in another, while Hasina and her daughter Putul are among 18 accused in the third.

The ACC initially filed six separate cases in January this year, alleging that power was abused and favoritism was shown in distributing plots in the Purbachal New Town Project.
