Local government and sports adviser has blamed ruling party-backed criminals for a recent rape incident in Muradnagar, Comilla, where a Hindu woman was allegedly assaulted inside her home.
In a strongly worded Facebook post published in the early hours of Saturday (28 June), Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan expressed deep frustration and held responsible those providing “shelter, rehabilitation, and empowerment” to what he described as “Awami terrorists.”
Referring to the crime, he wrote, “Those who are giving shelter and rehabilitation to Awami terrorists in Muradnagar and empowering them to extort, abuse, and now commit rape — they are responsible for today’s horror.”
He also recalled a previous incident in which a gang attacked a police station to free an extortionist caught red-handed. “We caught them, and yet they were rescued by a mafia group who attacked the police station. It’s a total breakdown of law,” he added.
The adviser, visibly upset, wrote, “I am ashamed today. Words fail me. People in my area say the country has been freed through public uprising, but Muradnagar has fallen deeper into the grip of bigger mafias.”
He warned that unless action is taken against the core criminal networks, the situation in Muradnagar will worsen. “The local administration is trying to arrest the rapists, but unless the real godfathers are held accountable, nothing will change.”
Local residents have echoed concerns that a criminal-political nexus continues to thrive despite recent changes in government leadership.
Police have launched an investigation into the case, but no official comment has yet been made regarding arrests or identification of the accused.
