The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has confirmed the arrest of Maulana Ataur Rahman Bikrampuri, who had recently been in the spotlight for several reasons.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the DMP said that Ataur Rahman was arrested in Narsingdi at the request of the Gazipur Metropolitan Police.
Since Tuesday night, followers and supporters of Ataur Rahman had been posting about the matter on Facebook. According to their claims, he was taken into custody after a bus he was traveling on from Bhairab was stopped and he was transferred into a microbus.
It was not immediately known whether any cases have been filed against him or on what specific charges he was arrested.
