In the incident of the attack on the coordinators at the Gopalganj-based Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU), the president and the member secretary of the investigation committee have resigned, citing their inability to proceed with the investigation. They submitted their resignation letters to the university registrar on Sunday night.
According to university sources, Shariful Islam Sohag, a student of history department and Chhatra League activist, came out after the examination on January 25. At that time, ordinary students including coordinators arrested him. Then Chhatra League workers who were followers of Sohag attacked and kidnapped Shariful Islam Sohag. Five journalists including two coordinators were injured.
In that incident, the dean of the faculty of engineering, Abdullah Al Asad, the president and the provost of Sheikh Russell Hall. Shahabuddin was appointed as the member secretary of a seven-member investigation committee. The committee was asked to submit its report within three days.

The university’s registrar, Enamuzzaman, told Liberty News’ local correspondent that “The chief and member secretary of the investigation committee submitted their resignations at night, expressing their inability to investigate. The matter will be reported to the Vice-Chancellor.”
