Two coordinators of a student movement at Gopalganj University were allegedly assaulted by Chhatra League activists after posting criticism of Chhatra League on Facebook.
The attack occurred around 4:30 PM on Friday near the SM Model Government High School in Gopalganj town. The injured — Jasim Uddin and Saidur Rahman, coordinators of the Students Against Discrimination Movement at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University — were admitted to the 250-bed General Hospital.
According to Jasim, a group of 12–13 men surrounded them, physically assaulted him and Saidur, and warned them not to leave the campus again. The attack allegedly followed a Facebook post Jasim made on Thursday, criticizing a local Chhatra League leader.
Police confirmed the incident. “We’ve spoken with the victims at the hospital, and an investigation is underway,” said Gopalganj Sadar Police Station OC Mir Md. Sajedur Rahman.
