To ensure public safety during Ramadan and Eid, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner has deployed an Auxiliary Police Force in key locations across the capital, including shopping malls and residential areas.

Following the directive of DMP Commissioner, Deputy Police Commissioner (Mirpur Division) Md. Maksudur Rahman has appointed private security personnel as ‘Auxiliary Police Force’ to assist law enforcement in Mirpur’s key locations. Mirpur Model Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Sajjad Roman distributed ID cards and provided operational guidelines to the auxiliary officers.

On Monday, March 10, two security in-charges, Md. Yunus Mia and Md. Ruhul Amin, were officially inducted into the auxiliary force at Mirpur Shopping Center and Kalyanpur Mizan Tower, receiving their ID cards from the Mirpur Model Police Station OC.

Earlier, on March 8, 2025, at a press conference, DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali announced the decision to recruit the Auxiliary Police Force. He stated, “During Ramadan and Eid, markets and shopping malls in Dhaka remain open for extended hours. However, due to a shortage of police personnel, we have deployed an auxiliary force to enhance security in residential areas, shopping malls, and markets.”

Explaining the role of the auxiliary force, DMP’s Media and Public Relations Deputy Police Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman said, “According to the Metropolitan Police Ordinance-1976, the DMP Commissioner has the authority to appoint individuals as auxiliary police officers when necessary. This auxiliary force is a semi-governmental security unit used to support police operations for a limited period.”

He added, “This initiative not only reduces costs but also strengthens law enforcement efforts. The law permits the use of special police forces when needed. While auxiliary officers can perform various policing duties and have the authority to arrest suspects, they are not authorized to conduct investigations.”

As part of this initiative, Mirpur’s police patrols have been intensified, and auxiliary officers have been deployed in key locations such as Hope’s Goli, Mirpur Shopping Mall, Sony Cinema Hall, Kalyanpur Bus Stand, and Barek Molla Mor. These officers will assist regular police forces in maintaining public security.

Each auxiliary police member will wear an armband labeled “Auxiliary Police Officer” and will be granted specific legal authority under police regulations. However, their powers will be limited to maintaining security and supporting law enforcement without conducting investigations.
