Abdul Momin, Bogura : Police in Bogura’s Dhunat upazila have arrested an Awami League leader, Nurul Islam (48), in connection with a case filed by a schoolteacher, accusing him of assault and sexual harassment. He was apprehended from Belkuchi village in Dhunat Sadar Union at around 11:00 AM on Sunday and later produced before the court.
Nurul Islam, son of the late Abdur Rahman from Belkuchi village, serves as the Organizing Secretary of Ward No. 5 under the Dhunat Sadar Union Awami League.
According to the case statement, Nurul Islam had been allegedly harassing the schoolteacher with obscene remarks for a long time. On the night of March 5, around 10:00 PM, while the teacher was returning home after buying medicine, he blocked her path and verbally abused her. When she protested, he reportedly assaulted her and attempted to harass her sexually.
Liberty News’ local correspondent reports that following the incident, the victim filed a case against Nurul Islam under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at Dhunat Police Station on March 10.
Confirming the arrest, Dhunat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saidul Alam said, “The accused has been arrested and presented before the court based on the case filed by the schoolteacher.”
