Renowned Islamic scholars Dr. Mizanur Rahman Azahari and Sheikh Ahmadullah have joined the “March for Gaza” protest at Dhaka’s Suhrawardy Udyan, urging the public to show solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine.
On Saturday morning (April 12), both speakers took to their verified Facebook pages to announce their participation in the rally and encouraged others to attend with their loved ones. The protest is organized by Palestine Solidarity Movement Bangladesh to denounce the ongoing Israeli aggression and atrocities in Gaza.
Dr. Azahari wrote, “I am currently on my way to the March for Gaza, expressing solidarity with the oppressed people of Gaza. Join this march of humanity with your loved ones.”
Echoing the same message, Sheikh Ahmadullah posted, “To stand with the oppressed people of Gaza, I am heading toward the March for Gaza. Come and join this humanitarian movement with your children.”
Though the main program is scheduled for the afternoon, large crowds began gathering at Suhrawardy Udyan since the morning. Enthusiastic participants arrived in processions, waving the national flag and the flag of Palestine, chanting slogans in support of the Palestinian cause.
Organizers stated that the program aims to raise international awareness against Israel’s ongoing brutality in Gaza and to mobilize global public opinion. They expect hundreds of thousands of people from across the country to participate.
Liberty News’ national affairs correspondent states that in a show of unity, several prominent figures from religious, political, cultural, and sports communities expressed solidarity with the cause through video messages released on Friday.
