Former State Minister for Home Affairs, Lutfozzaman Babar, has been acquitted of a 17-year prison sentence in an arms case filed during the caretaker government. The High Court delivered the ruling on March 19, 2025.

Lutfozzaman Babar, a former State Minister for Home Affairs, has been cleared of all charges and acquitted by the High Court in a case related to illegal arms possession. The case, which dates back to the tenure of the caretaker government, had originally sentenced Babar to 17 years in prison.

The ruling was delivered on Wednesday by a bench comprising Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Nasreen Akhter. The court’s decision overturns the previous conviction and grants Babar a full acquittal in the case.

Liberty News’ court correspondent states that this legal victory marks a significant development in the long-running legal battles of the former government official, whose conviction had been a point of contention for many years.
