Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud, Secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Dhaka South chapter, has issued a strong ultimatum to the interim government, urging an immediate ban on the Awami League by midday today.
Speaking at a protest rally outside the Jamuna residence on Friday morning, Dr. Masud declared that the students and citizens who empowered the interim government are now united in their call to ban the Awami League.
“We are making it clear—by noon today, all political parties must come together and formally declare the ban on the Awami League,” he said.
Dr. Masud accused the ruling party of orchestrating mass killings over the years, stating, “The people demand that the regime responsible for these atrocities be removed, and the party declared illegal. This is no longer a partisan demand—it is the collective will of the nation.”
He claimed that calls to ban the party have risen from every corner of Bangladesh, and condemned attempts by certain quarters to suppress this “democratic demand.”
“On August 5, the people stood firm against bullets and achieved victory. Today, they return with the same resolve—they will not leave until their mission is accomplished,” he added.
Dr. Masud emphasized the non-partisan nature of the movement, saying, “We have not gathered here under any political banner. We stand as representatives of 180 million people. We will not retreat until the Awami League is officially banned.”
