Seven workers abducted from the Komolabagan area of Sarai union in Lama upazila, Bandarban, have been freed by their captors following a joint operation. In the early hours of Monday, they were rescued from the remote Lingpungpara area of Sarai Union.
Faced with the joint operation by the army and police, the abductors abandoned the abductees in the remote hilly area and fled. The rescued individuals were then taken to the local army camp.
Lama police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Sadat Hossain said the rescued individuals are in good condition. On Saturday night, unidentified criminals raided a farm in the union and abducted the seven woodworkers, demanding a ransom of Tk 7 lakh from their families.
The abducted workers included Md Nuru, 50, Md Alamgir, 35, Md Shafi Alam, 32, Md Helal, 40, and driver Md Jamal, 32. The names of the other two workers remain unknown.
