Bangladesh has cleared all outstanding dues to India’s Adani Power, making a one-time payment of $437 million in June for electricity imports. The payment settles all receivables owed to Adani Power up to March 31, according to officials familiar with the matter.

Bangladesh Bank sources confirmed this was the largest single payment made to the Indian energy giant so far, with previous monthly payments averaging $90–100 million. With this clearance, the cross-border power purchase agreement between Bangladesh and Adani has returned to a normal financial and legal state.

Adani Power supplies electricity to Bangladesh from its Godda power plant in India’s Jharkhand state. The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) said it has now instructed Adani to keep both 800 MW units—totaling 1,600 MW—operational according to demand.

The settlement includes all arrears, delayed interest, and charges. An earlier understanding between the two parties stipulated that delayed payment charges would be waived if arrears were cleared by June 30—a condition Bangladesh fulfilled.

To prevent further delays, Bangladesh has now provided a Letter of Credit (LC) worth two months of power bills, around $180 million, and a sovereign guarantee for any future dues.

In May, reports estimated Bangladesh’s outstanding bills to Adani Power had reached nearly $900 million. At the time, Adani’s Chief Financial Officer Dilip Jha said Bangladesh had paid $1.2 billion of the total $2 billion bill by the end of fiscal year FY2024–25, with another $136 million billed as delayed charges.
